There are so many great business books out there and I really get excited and need to share my love for some of the best. I’m currently reading Shift by Peter Arnell. Not only does Arnell have an inspiring professional story, he has over 30 years worth of branding and image management that is awe-inspiring.

When you think of big brands like DKNY, Samsung, Reebok and Pepsi, you are seeing his work in reinventing the perspective of some of the world’s leading companies and brands. His story and insight is that of the business, however he applies his same philosophies of reinvention to that of one’s personal brand and endeavors.

The story starts with his once unhealthy obsession with eating, but the story flows through his efforts and mantra, where Shift begins with his ultimate goal of losing 150 pounds (what’s more incredible is he ends up losing 256!). It may sound like I’m giving away the ending. But Arnell’s chapters provide templates for the reader to use in maximizing on their personal positive energy.

“Branding is about simplicity and scale. Most people don’t relate to small; they relate to big. So as a marketer, it pays to think really big and to move fast. You have to approach marketing like Formula 1 racing; respond quickly, think ahead, and know where you are going.”

His analogy to racing is one I can certainly identify, and his book does just that. Prepping readers and leaders to respond quickly, think ahead, have a plan and finally, the positive energy to make it happen. Click below for a more detailed read, and preview the first section of the book and let me know what you think!
