25 Quick SEO Tips In Celebration of 25 Years of Millennium!

Search Engine OptimizationAs you may know, it’s Millennium’s 25th anniversary! Last month we gave a list of our 25 favorite classic fonts, and this month we’re sharing 25 tips for search engine optimization (SEO)! Our search marketing and digital experts created this quick list of foolproof tips to keep in mind when managing an SEO campaign:

  1. Content is King. Every SEO expert will tell you this over and over. If you don’t have unique, well-written, and topical content related to your key words or phrases, you’re damaging your SEO efforts.
  2. Content may be King, but links are Queen. Be sure to build quality backlinks and make sure the sites that are linking to yours make sense logically.
  3. Know your competition. While this is common business practice, it’s especially important in SEO to do your research and find out what sites are ranking highest based on your keywords.
  4. Fresh content often improves your ranking. Again, content is king, and adding new, evergreen content on a regular basis will only help build your popularity.
  5. Make content engaging for visitors. Not only do complicated and confusing sites drive visitors away (as mentioned before), but overall user boredom will also have visitors leaving quickly and not returning.
  6. Add a blog to your site. Blogs are perfect places for regular, quality content which helps with your ranking and credibility.
  7. Pay attention to search phrases, not just keywords. It’s important to think from the users’ standpoint. What terms or phrases would they use to search for your business?
  8. Always caption your images with keywords. Creating rich keyword captions is just another way to build your ranking.
  9. Make sure there is a unique keyword focused title tag for each page on your website. Page titles serve as your ads on search engine page results. The more relevant your page title is to what the user is searching for, the more likely they will choose your organic listing over your competitors. Use keywords they would use to search for your business.
  10. Never design your website without keeping SEO in mind. It’s important to work with an agency, like Millennium, who has a staff of SEO experts who work directly with our web developers to make sure all aspects of a client’s site is optimized properly.
  11. You MUST have a user-friendly website. Nothing deters a site visitor more than a complicated, confusing website which can directly influence your link building, user engagement, and ultimately your ranking.
  12. Make sure your website is mobile-friendly (preferably responsive). People are using their phones to surf the web more than ever before. Having a mobile-friendly website is not only important for user experience, but will affect your search rankings on mobile devices.
  13. When building a landing page, make sure the call to action is very clear. Visitors to your site cannot perform the actions you would like them to unless you make it very clear what steps they are to take, whether it’s filling out a form, clicking on a link, purchasing a product, or picking up the phone and calling your business.
  14. NEVER consider your website to be completely finished. Sites should always be updated regularly: new content should be added, links should be monitored, and improvements can always be made.
  15. SEO is NOT set it and forget it. The search world changes daily, so it’s important to constantly monitor your SEO campaign on a regular basis.
  16. SEO results are never instantaneous. As with many good marketing campaigns, patience is key. Developing evergreen content, optimizing for user experience, and link-earning campaigns all have greater impact over time. Newer sites especially can take time to gain ranking. Authority and trustworthiness need to be established first.
  17. Quality, not quantity. This is true for link building, keywords and phrases, and content.
  18. Give link love, get link love. It’s the same old saying, scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours. If you link to various sites, other sites will be more likely to link back to yours.
  19. Search engines prefer simplicity when it comes to on-page themes. This goes back to the idea of quality, not quantity. Focus on quality keywords and context while NOT using every keyword in the book.
  20. Use Pay Per Click in conjunction with your SEO efforts. Doing so will quickly drive visitors to your site, resulting in quicker evaluation and results from your SEO efforts, and a greater ROI.
  21. Understand that social marketing is important and SHOULD be a part of your SEO efforts. Social sites like Facebook, Yelp, and Google+ drive engagement to your sites, act as a platform to share content, and  provide outlets for your customers to write reviews. All of this is important in the SEO landscape.
  22. Get your business on the map. This is key for local SEO campaigns. Claiming and listing your business on Google, Bing, and Apple enhances your chances of capturing business within your local area.
  23. Add your address and phone number to all pages of your site. This is often perfect at the bottom of every page. It builds trust and improves keyword rankings if you’re using the name of your city or town.
  24. Don’t just set-up Google Analytics, USE it! Google Analytics offers a wealth of information. If you’re not tracking where visitors are finding you, their demographics, or the keywords they are searching, you are doing a major disservice to your SEO and online marketing efforts. And last but absolutely not the least:
  25. Work with a Certified Google Partner. Agencies like Millennium are granted special access to exclusive events, training, certifications, and support straight from Google. Our experts all hold various Google certifications and can work with you and Google directly to make sure all services are being utilized to the best of their capability, which in turn provides you and your business with a greater overall ROI.
